Boys Dorm Redesign
Taking inspiration from industrial way finding, I designed this look as a DIY way to make a an uninspiring space feel less institutional. Vibrant sporty blues helped liven the sterile concrete block and a sporty electric green brought energy. Random accent tiles anchored the floor and broke up the monotony of the long, uninterrupted corridor. Door numbers were outlined using an overhead projector pointed down the hallway at bathroom mirror attached to a janitorial cart at a 45 degree angle. Measurements were preserved by maintaining a consistent distance from the cart and matching up to bounding marks made with a tape measure. The name placards are fabric stretched over tack boards to allow the posting of notes, messages, photos, or other scrapbook-like snippets.
